Lovorka Stojic 2.jpg

Lovorka Stojic

I received my undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Zagreb, and obtained my PhD at the University of Zurich at Institute of Molecular Cancer Research in the laboratory of Josef Jiricny. I was awarded with an EMBO Long-Term Fellowship to work in Valerio Orlando’s laboratory (Italy). I then moved to the CRUK Cambridge Institute for my last postdoctoral post working with Adele Murrell, Fanni Gergely and Duncan Odom. I started my own group in October 2019 at the Barts Cancer Institute.

For more information about Lovorka, please find her on Twitter, Research Gate, ORCID and Google Scholar. Stojic lab is a part of QMUL Epigenetics Hub and Barts RNA Cancer Hub.

GIULIA GUIDUCCI

(AIRC FUNDED postdocTORAL RESEARcHER)

Giulia received her Bachelor degree in Biotechnologies and a Master degree in Medical Biotechnologies from Sapienza University of Rome. She completed her PhD in Prof Francesca Cutruzzolá's lab (Sapienza University of Rome) and did an internship in Prof Gian Gaetano Tartaglia’s lab (CRG, Spain) where she characterised the role of RNA binding proteins in cellular metabolism and cancer. Giulia was awarded with an AIRC fellowship for Abroad in February 2021.

Alice COOMer (CRUK funded postdoctoral researcher)

Alice graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Durham University, during which she did a placement year at The Binding Site (Birmingham) working in protein purification. She obtained an MRes in Oncology from The University of Manchester and has now completed her PhD in Prof David Elliott’s lab (Newcastle University), where she studied the regulation of alternative splicing in lung cancer. Outside of the lab, Alice volunteers for Girlguiding, where she runs weekly activities for Brownies, as well as helping to organise the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band.

Sanjana ANANTH, PhD student

Sanjana (Sanj as we call her) graduated from SRM Institute of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology. For her Bachelor’s degree project, she worked with Dr Walid Khaled at the University of Cambridge. She continued on to pursue a Master of Research in Biomedical Research from Imperial College London working with Dr Nelofer Syed and Dr Paola Scaffidi at the Francis Crick Institute. Sanj started her PhD in 2022 collaborating with Prof Silvia Marino (Blizard Institute, QMUL) and Dr Lovorka Stojic (BCI, QMUL) and is funded by The Brain Tumour (BTR) Research. Outside the lab, if she’s not out watching a musical, you can find her playing weekly netball tournaments, drawing or playing the violin.

PARNIA BabaeI (CRUK funded Research ASSISTANT)

Parnia did her undergraduate degree in Medical Genetics at the Queen Mary University of London. During her third year thesis, she worked on evolution of KMT2A/B and DNA methylation with Dr Alex Mendoza. She is completing her MSc in Cancer and Molecular Pathology and Genomics with us where she is investigated the role of lncRNAs in lung cancer. Parnia started her new role as a research technician in our lab in February 2024.
